Bud club storm into final

Guwahati, March 20: Bud Cricket Club stormed into the final of the Maharana Centenary Suren Ram Phookan Cricket Tournament, defeating River Rine Club by seven wickets in the second semi-final at Judges Field here today.

Opting to bat, River Rine were bundled out for 134 runs in 28.2 overs.

Laxman Sikdar scored 22 runs off 19 balls while Abuddin Khan chipped in with 17 runs off 21 deliveries.

Vinod Sharma was the other notable contributor with 15 runs.

Dhiraj Goswami was the wrecker-in-chief with five wickets for 37 runs in seven overs while Roshan Basfor scalped three wickets conceding 34 runs in 8.2 overs.

Krishna Das took one wicket for 21 runs in five overs.

In reply, Bud cruised to their target losing just three wickets in 22.1 overs.

Kaushik Giri rose to the occasion with an unbeaten 56 while Mukut Kalita contributed 22 runs. Roshan Basfor remained not out on 20 runs. Chintu Borgohain scalped two wickets for 46 runs in eight overs while Rituparna Phatowali picked up one wicket for 24 runs in three overs. Bud Cricket Club will take on Navajyoti Club in the final tomorrow.

Chess meet: The first RGS International Rating Chess Tournament (below 2,200 Fide points) is all set to get under way on March 23 at Royal Global School Indoor Hall here.

The event with a total prize-money of Rs 5.01 lakh is the biggest international rating event in the Northeast in terms of prize-money. Over 200 participants have already registered.
