Actress ‘groped’ in home lift

Mumbai, March 19: Rhea Chakraborty, a 21-year-old actress of Bengali-Konkani parentage, has lodged a police complaint saying she was groped by a stranger on the premises of the building she stays in.

The incident took place yesterday around 5.40pm in her housing society in suburban Khar when the MTV VJ-turned-actress took the elevator to go to her flat.

According to her complaint, a man walking up the stairs suddenly entered the elevator after her and allegedly tried to speak to her in an intimate tone. Scared, she kicked him, forcing him to flee.

In a series of tweets soon after, Rhea wrote: “Mumbai is so unsafe. It’s scary to another level. I am absolutely frustrated with the men in this country.

“I just got groped… in broad daylight, with 2 watchmen chilling in the building… Can a girl not walk in to her own building at 5 pm?

“Luckily, I take martial arts classes and I managed to kick him real hard… and screamed so he ran away….”

Born in Ambala but brought up in Bangalore, Rhea has relatives in Calcutta, but has not spent much time in the city.

She auditioned for the 2010 Yash Raj film, Band Baaja Baaraat, but the role went to Anushka Sharma. The production house did give her a break in Mere Dad Ki Maruti.

She was unavailable for comment.
