Bud beat Navarang

Guwahati, March 17: Bud Cricket Club eased past Navarang Club by six wickets in a low-scoring match of the Maharana Centenary Suren Ram Phookun Cricket Tournament at Judges Field here today.

Batting first, Navarang batsmen were bundled out for 79 runs in 17.3 overs.

In reply, Bud Cricket Club managed to reach the target losing four wickets in 16.5 overs.

Amzad Ali was the only notable Navarang scorer with a run-a-ball 32.

Deepak Gohain of Bud bagged three wickets, conceding six runs off his four overs, while Debabrata Roy and Abir Chakraborty picked up two wickets each.

For Bud, Roshan Basfore rose to the occasion with an unbeaten knock of 41 runs, which included four boundaries and a six and Kaushik Giri chipped in with 16 runs. Chandan Roy picked up two wickets conceding 21 runs off six overs while Amit Boro took one wicket for 23 runs.

On Saturday, Navarang Club inflicted a 70-run defeat on AG Office in a first-round encounter.

Navarang batted first and posted 222 for eight in the 30 overs and the AG Office batsmen were restricted to 152 for nine in equal number of overs.

Bastav Hazarika (44), Neeraj Tiwari (41), Raj Hussain (36) and Amzad Ali (31) were the notable scorers for Navarang while Rajiv Kalita, Prasanta Sonowal and Imtiaz Hussain of AG Office picked up two wickets apiece.

For AG Office, Bikash Tiwari (33) and Sujoy Tarafdar (32) were the main scorers as Navarang left-arm spinner Sekhar Jyoti Barman hauled our for 39 and Raj Hussain and Chandan Roy shared two each for 22 and 36 respectively.
