Sonowal’s parivartan mantra

- Dedicate 5 hrs every day to campaigning, BJP leader tells workers

Jorhat, March 13: BJP leader and state unit president Sarbananda Sonowal today appealed to party workers to dedicate five hours each day for campaigning.

Speaking at a meeting here this afternoon, where over 1,200 members belonging to the AGP and Congress joined the BJP, Sonowal urged the workers to take out at least five hours from their daily schedule for the party.

“There is a genuine pro-BJP mood across the country for a change in government at the Centre as people are fed up with largescale corruption and mis-governance of the Congress-led UPA government. To let this parivartan (change) happen we should dedicate ourselves to reach out to the voters,” said Sonowal.

Welcoming the new members to the party fold, he urged each worker to visit 10 households per hour so that in five hours 50 families were covered.

Sonowal, who was an ex-AASU leader and a former Lok Sabha member, said by covering 50 families, one worker could campaign for over 200 voters as if there were four to five members in a family eligible for voting.

The BJP leader said if a party member could follow this routine then the winning chances of the party would go up manifold.

According to party sources, the BJP has about five lakh members across the state.

He urged the workers to point out to the voters the total failure and mis-governance at the Centre and also in Assam.

He said people have been badly affected because of sharp increase in prices of essential items, fuel, LPG cylinders, loss of hundreds of crores of rupees in the large number of scams during the two tenures of the UPA and the plummeting economy.

The Assam BJP president asked the party workers to assure the people of clean, good and people-friendly governance if the BJP was voted to power.

Taking a dig at the Tarun Gogoi-led government, the BJP leader said in the past 13 years, the state government has failed on all fronts.

“The Gogoi-led government has been plagued by a series of scams, severe deterioration of law and order with rampant killings, abduction and extortion becoming commonplace followed by a sharp rise in crimes against women,” said Sonowal.

He said if the BJP came to power at the Centre, the government would take strong measures to check infiltration from Bangladesh, on which the Congress governments at the Centre and Assam were soft to protect their vote bank.

BJP youth leader and candidate for Jorhat Lok Sabha seat Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, former AGP leader and former state cabinet minister Hitendra Nath Goswami, former AGP Jorhat Zilla Parishad member Dulen Nayak from Mariani, former AGP Jorhat district committee member Alijan Ali were among those present at the meeting.

Among the prominent Congress members who joined the BJP today were Assam PCC member and Golaghat district unit Congress committee vice-president Biswajit Phukan and member of the Golaghat district unit Congress committee Prince Aizul Haque.
