A1 station on a makeover spree

- Food plaza, lounge & toilets for passengers’ comfort at Dhanbad

Dhanbad railway station, having won the A1 status in August last year, is now going through an image makeover process to become passenger-friendly.

One of the prominent junctions under the East Central Railway, Dhanbad, which records an average footfall of around 20,000 daily, will soon boast a deluxe toilet complex, a food plaza, an executive lounge, lifts and a large parking lot.

All these facilities are coming up in addition to the recently introduced amenities, like an escalator on the platform No. 2-3, a fast food unit on the platform No. 1, apart from a new complex on the southern part of the station.

Elaborating on the facelift plan, senior divisional commercial manager, Dhanbad, Dayanand said the toilets were being built in the circulating area near the passenger reservation station complex. Developed by a Bhopal-based private firm, Vasundhara Group, the toilets, work on which started a month ago, will be ready by the end of April.

Sources said it would be a pay-and-use facility and comprise 12 blocks, including two urinals, four separate latrines each for men and women, one for handicapped person and one European style lavatory. Besides, there will be bathing showers with provisions for hot and cold water, adequate number of wash basins and mirrors.

On the parking facility, Dayanand said site-levelling work had begun in front of the newly constructed complex on the southern part of the station.“Tender will be issued for the construction,” the senior divisional officer said.

Brindavan Fast Food Products has been roped in to develop the food plaza in the concourse area of the station. Work has already started.

The executive lounge will be developed in the PPP mode. The lounge, which will come up on 1,000 sqmt area, will have a dormitory, wash and change facility, TV, Internet connection, and meet and greet facility.

For the lifts, which will be installed on the platform No. 1 and in between platform No. 3 and 4, tenders will be floated by the railway board soon.
