Modi merchandise lures fans

You may love him, you may hate him, but you simply cannot ignore him.

BJP’s prime ministerial candidate is indeed all over the place, the Internet being his latest turf.

So, on Monday, when Ranchi resident Vinita Malhotra logged into her FabFurnish account (a website for home decors, furnishings and kitchen appliances) to look for what’s new in the cups and mugs section, the 36-year-old event manager was surprised to find a series of NaMo cups.

“It is not that I am a huge Narendra Modi fan, but the coffee mugs were attractive. I placed an order for two of varying designs,” said Vinita.

On this particular website, there are around 44 different designs of NaMo tea and coffee mugs priced between Rs 249 and Rs 349. Some have images of Narendra Modi, while some have his inspiring quotes and others have NaMo inscribed on them with a lotus, the BJP symbol.

These items are being marketed by a company called Bluegape.

Like Vinita, Prabha Rai was equally fascinated to see these while browsing the Net. She quickly bought one to gift her father-in-law Ram Naresh Rai.

“Papa is a die-hard fan of Narendra Modi. He stays in Bokaro and will come to Ranchi next week. I wish to surprise him with a coffee mug with his icon’s picture,” said Prabha.

She also checked out the site Bluegape and found more NaMo products.

“While FabFurnish has put on sale only the mugs, the company marketing the products has T-Shirts, mouse pads, laptop covers, wall clocks, cushions and posters as well. I have also ordered a wall clock,” she smiled.

A local BJP supporter, Narendra Sahay, however said that the NaMo merchandise was available on Flipkart too.

Hum to Flipkart se sabhi kuch mangwa te hain. Humare shahar mein Flipkart dwara delivery ka wyawastha nahi tha isliye Calcutta mei mangwana parta hai. (I have got all the products. Flipkart had no option to deliver in Ranchi so I got it via Calcutta),” he added.

Sanjay Seth, in-charge of NaMo promotion cell in Jharkhand, told The Telegraph that the party would soon be distributing NaMo merchandise among its members and supporters.

“We have ordered NaMo T-shirts, caps, wall clocks and side bags to our Delhi headquarters. I am not sure whether Bluegape is the company that is providing the products, but the items are such that people can use on a daily basis,” Seth added.
