House fire claims three kids

Nagaon, March 8: Three children were burnt alive inside a rented house in Rongchingdom village in Hamren subdivision of Karbi Anglong district last night.

Police said a candle kept inside the room may have caused the blaze when the victims were alone in the house owned by Welson Rangfar.

The victims are Nahor Bey, 10, Langki Dera, 11, and Rangfar’s son Chingthur, 5.

Bey and Dera’s parents had reportedly gone to a nearby church around 11.30pm.

Rongchingdom village is located 2km from Hamren sub-divisional headquarters.

Hamren superintendent of police Nityananda Goswami said the bodies are yet to be taken for post-mortem as local residents had moved the administration for permission to cremate them according to customary law.

In another development, the police today said businessman Sudip Chandra, who was kidnapped from Hamren on January 31, was killed by his abductors near Jirikinding. “We arrested five persons who have confessed to the crime,” Goswami said.
