Mr Saraighat meet on March 10

Guwahati, March 5: About 30 leading body-builders from across the country will vie for the honours in the silver jubilee edition of Mr Saraighat R.G. Baruah All-India Classic Body-Building Championship at ITA Pragjyoti cultural complex here on March 10.

The meet is being organised by Saraighat Gym, in association with the Assam Body-Builders and Fitness Association, affiliated to the Indian Body-Builders Federation (IBBF).

This being the silver jubilee edition, we planned a lot but could not do much because of the current law and order situation in the state. Despite all odds, some of the top body-builders have confirmed participation, Assam Body-Builders and Fitness Association secretary Bhabajyoti Goswami said.

The national and international players will be the ones invited by the IBBF while it is open to body-builders from the Northeast. As far as the judges are concerned, Balbir Singh, the chairman of the IBBFs judges committee will decide on it. We have not received any assistance from the state government but like the last few years, DS Group has come to our aid. If everything goes according to plan, it will be the one of the best championships ever, Goswami said.

The championship will be held in one group and will have prize money of Rs 3.85 lakh.
