Bongaigaon in comfort zone

Guwahati, March 4: Bongaigaon were in a comfortable position, piling up 293 runs for the loss of six wickets till the end of the first day’s play against Lakhimpur in the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy Senior Inter-District Cricket Tournament Plate Group final at Barsapara Cricket Stadium here today.

Batting first, Bongaigaon failed to get off to a sound start with opener Gobinda Rajbongshi being the first wicket to fall with 22 runs on board.

Despite the early blow, Anmol Prasad and Fazlur Rahman steered the ship to safety by putting up a second-wicket partnership of 100 runs.

Prasad scored 65 runs off 114 balls with nine hits to the fence while Rahman remained unbeaten with a fine knock of 131 runs off 254 deliveries, which included 21 boundaries. Gulzar Washim was the other notable contributor with 29 runs off 81 balls.

Bidyut Nayak was the other batsman at the crease with 10 runs off 12 balls till the stumps were drawn for the first day. Pacer Rajmoni Ahmed was the pick of the Morigaon bowlers with three wickets to his kitty for 44 runs in his 19 overs while Pabitra Patar, Deepjyoti Bora and Saddiqur Rahman scalped a wicket each.
