Sandalwood seized

Siliguri, March 3: Around 280kg of red sandalwood worth Rs 50 lakh was seized by customs officials from Ghoshpukur near here yesterday.

J.K.Bubana, deputy commissioner of the customs’ Naxalbari division, said the contraband was being taken to Manipur in a truck from Calcutta.

“On the basis of information from a source, we seized the truck that was parked in a vacant plot at Ghoshpukur and recovered 280kg of red sandalwood from it. The price of the contraband is around Rs 50 lakh,” he said. Ghoshpukur is 30km from here.

The driver and helper of the truck are absconding.
