Lakhipur men lift trophy

Hailakandi, March 2: A hattrick by Lalmunlong Hmar helped Lakhipur Football Academy annex the 3rd Prahlad Chandra Nath inter-academy under-15 Football Championship defeating Singerbond Football Academy 3-1 at Silchar Sporting Ground today.

Lakhipur took the lead in the 17th minute through Lalmunlong Hmar, who scored it off a direct shot that left Singerbond custodian Ramphailong Rongmei helpless.

The strike was, however, equalised by Gauranga Babu Singha of Singerbond in the 32nd minute and the scoreline was 1-1 at half time.

Lalmunlong Hmar scored two more goals in the 63rd and 69th minutes.

Eight football academy teams of the Barak Valley participated in the tournament, organised by the Silchar Football Academy.

In the first semi-final, Singerbond Football Academy was awarded a walkover against Hmarkulin Convent English School while in the second semi-final, Lakhipur Football Academy defeated Hailakandi DSA 2-0.

Lakhipur’s Sunit Singha was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper while Jacob Rongmei of Singerbond got the Best Midfielder award.

Lalmalsanga of Lakhipur was named the Best Defender and Lalramsanga Hmar of Lakhipur was adjudged the Best Forward.

The prizes were given away by assistant general manager of PowerGrid Corporation of India, S.K. Pramanika, and District Sport Association secretary Babul Hore, among others.
