Sakchi to get 11 CCTV cameras

East Singhbhum police, which awarded a work order to a firm on Thursday to install CCTV cameras across the city to check crime, has chosen commercial hub Sakchi to start the project.

City-based firm Ain will install 11 CCTV cameras at various locations in Sakchi on a pilot basis.

Superintendent of police (city) Karthik S. said they would get over 100 cameras installed on major thoroughfares and strategic locations across the steel city.

“We have told the firm (Ain to set up 11 CCTV cameras in Sakchi. After reviewing results, we will proceed to other areas,” he said.

Karthik added East Singhbhum police had sent a request to its state headquarters in Ranchi for necessary clearance and were expecting the nod by the start of next week.

“Once we get a green light from the headquarters, Ain will start installing the cameras. The 11 locations near Sakchi roundabout and on Kalimati Road have been identified,” the SP (city) said.

For the pilot project, they would set up a monitoring cell at police control room on Sakchi thana premises. Cameras will be linked to the monitoring cell via overhead cables.

The SP (city), who has been entrusted with supervising the camera installation, scrutinised over a dozen local firms before choosing Ain for the pilot project.

“Clarity of footage is of the utmost importance to check crime. If footage is clear, we will ask the firm to put up cameras in other areas,” he said.

Last month, East Singhbhum SSP Amol V. Homkar had said they planned to rope in a private ad firm to install CCTV cameras and check crime and road mishaps. Sakchi apart, areas earmarked include Bistupur, Sonari, Kadma, Baridih, Golmuri, Sidhgora and Burmamines.
