E&Y award for best in business

Mumbai, Feb. 20: Uday Kotak, executive vice-chairman and managing director of Kotak Mahindra Bank, was today named as the Ernst & Young entrepreneur of the year 2013.

Cipla chairman Yusuf K. Hamied was honoured with the lifetime achievement award for driving the vision of affordable healthcare for all.

Kotak will now represent India at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Monte Carlo from June 4-8. Eight other awards were handed out at a ceremony here today.

Vineet Nayyar and C.P. Gurnani, executive vice-chairman and chief executive officer & managing director, Tech Mahindra Ltd, were awarded the entrepreneur of the year manager.

Ajay Bijli, chairman and managing director of PVR Ltd, was awarded for business transformation, V.S.S. Mani, founder and CEO of Just Dial Ltd, won the award in the area of services, and Rajju Devidas Shroff, chairman and MD of UPL Ltd, for manufacturing.

The sectoral awards went out to Qimat Rai Gupta, chairman & MD of Havells India (consumer products); Amit Bakshi, chairman, managing director & CEO, Eris Lifesciences Pvt Ltd (lifesciences and healthcare); and Ravi Menon, chairman, Sobha Developers Ltd (for real estate, energy and infrastructure).

Rizwan Koita, CEO of CitiusTech, was declared entrepreneur of the year — start-up. The winners were selected by an eight-member jury led by Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of Aditya Birla Group.
