Heist by women in Siliguri

Siliguri, Feb. 18: A house here was robbed this evening allegedly by three women who caught hold of a 11-year-old boy and held a dagger to him and asked his mother to hand over cash and valuables.

Other than the mother, Santa Sharma, and the younger son, her elder son, 13, was also at home. Santa’s husband, an employee of a shop, was not at home. “Santa handed over Rs 40,000 and gold ornaments to the women,” said Prashanta Chakrabarty, the councillor of ward 27 of Siliguri.

The family was a tenant on the ground floor of a two-storied house at South Deshabandhupara in ward 27. The robbery took place around 7.30pm. After the theft, the women dragged Santa and the 13-year-old boy into the bathroom and locked it up. The younger son’s hands and legs were tied up and the robbers fled. Alerted by his screams, the neighbours reached the house and freed the three.
