Trinamul win

Cooch Behar, Feb. 17: Trinamul is set to take over Mekhliganj municipality after four Left Front members and one from the Congress joined the ruling party in Calcutta today.

The civic body with nine wards had eight Left Front members and one from the Congress. Rabindranath Ghosh, Cooch Behar district Trinamul president, said: “They (the new entrants) will submit a letter mentioning that they want to table a no-confidence motion against the board that is a minority with four members.”

Forward Bloc chairman of the municipality, Mithu Singha Sarkar Adhikari, said she would not step down. “Let them bring the motion. We will contest it.” Local Forward Bloc MLA Paresh Adhikary, said: “They (Left Front leaders who switched to Trinamul) have betrayed the people.”
