Acer targets firms for tablet push

Calcutta, Feb. 16: Computing devices vendor Acer India is eyeing a 10-12 per cent share in the tablet market, which is set to grow to 3 million units this year.

The company plans to focus on increasing the enterprise customer base to drive growth in this segment.

Acer said it had seen good growth in the sale of tablet PCs with increasing demand from the education sector and smartphone and laptop users.

“The consumer is now more discerning. Given the changes happening in the last one year, we believe it (tablets) will be a 3-million market in India. Last year, the market was 4 million. All white boxes (non-brands) have been cleaned up. Otherwise (in their absence), the market would have crossed 6 million units,” said S. Rajendran, chief marketing officer, Acer India (Pvt) Ltd.

Acer maintains that the market has been polarised in favour of price bands ranging from Rs 7,999-24,999.
