Women display teeing prowess

Jamshedpur, Feb 15: Ritu Kapila emerged champion at Usha Martin Ladies Invitational Golf Tournament, held at Beldih course today.

Thirty top lady amateurs from the steel city participated in the tournament.

Ruchi Narendran, wife of Tata Steel managing director T.V. Narendran, and Usha Martin chairman Prashant Jhawar jointly inaugurated the event.

In a keenly fought contest, Ritu, who came up with a net score of 73, pipped Sujata Sachdev on a countback of the last nine holes.

Malvika Jha finished third with a better back nine score amongst five players who finished with a total of 74 net.

Apart from the main prizes, several skill prizes were on offer to keep all players in high spirits throughout the tourney.

Sujata Sachdev won the closest to pin award, while Jenny Shah won the 13th place finish.

Organisers are now gearing up to host the Usha Martin Invitational Golf Tournament at Golmuri greens on Sunday.

The coveted event, which returns to Jamshedpur after more than a decade and a half, will see top golfers of the steel city swing clubs in the fray for honours.

Adding sheen to the tournament will be more than 20 golfers from outside the city, including two participants from United Kingdom.
