Case holes fetch bail for cabbie

Police have arrested shuttle taxi driver Ramesh Biswas for allegedly trying to kidnap a woman passenger off the Bypass around 1am on Wednesday.

Biswas was arrested on Wednesday night near his home in the Regent Park area.

Alipore court granted him bail on Thursday evening, though he was booked for outrage of modesty, wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation. Sources said “discrepancies” have been found between the complaint and the police case.

A lawyer said the woman has not mentioned that the driver had outraged her modesty. The “gaps” helped the driver get bail.

The woman had alleged that the 44-year-old driver didn’t drop her at the Ruby roundabout but took her to the Jadavpur connector off the Bypass where her screams triggered a police chase.
