Bail for foreign TV team, passports with police

The three foreigners arrested in connection with the satellite phone case were granted bail by the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Jalpaiguri on Tuesday.

They have not been released yet as each of the three needs to give a personal surety. The court has ordered that the passports of the trio, who were leading a European reality show team, would be with the investigating officer. They will also have to appear in court twice in week. On February 9, police had arrested Benoit Marie Theresez Boakman of Belgium, Wadhen Kerstian of Germany and Dan Mitson of Britain after the reality show team was found possessing 22 satellite phones which were being used without permission of the Indian authorities.

The trio, who are the organisers of the show Peking Express, were charged under the Indian Telegraph Act and sections of the IPC on criminal conspiracy and for giving false information.
