Silchar enter semi-finals

Hailakandi, Feb. 9: Silchar entered the semi-finals of the RG Baruah Trophy under-17 inter-district cricket championship, defeating last yearís runners-up Hailakandi by five wickets at DSA ground at Karimganj today.

Silchar booked a quarter-final berth, defeating Karbi Anglong and hosts Karimganj.

Hailakandi made it to the pre-quarterfinals directly by virtue of being last yearís runners-up and defeated Lakhipur.

Winning the toss, Silchar sent Hailakandi in to bat first. The number of overs was truncated from 40 to 17 due to bad weather.

Hailakandi scored 102, losing eight wickets in the stipulated 17 overs. Vinay Rohilla topscored with a run-a-ball 24, hitting three fours. Hailakandiís five batsmen ran themselves out. Rahul Singha of Silchar took two wickets for 19 runs.

In reply, Silchar scored 105 runs losing five wickets in 16.1 overs. Prasenjit Sarkar and Jnanendra Verma were the notable scorers for the side.
