CM lashes out at terror slur on minister

Patna, Feb. 8: Chief minister Nitish Kumar today lashed out at Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the BJP for tainting the name of minority welfare minister Shahid Ali Khan over inputs accusing him of having terror connections.

Nitish accused the SSB of defaming the minister without any proof and claimed to conduct a detailed inquiry on the controversial letter.

“The letter was just a piece of information sent by SSB to the Bihar police headquarters in January. The information was then sent to the districts concerned to ascertain the veracity of the letter. The district police confirmed that the inputs were baseless,” he said.

“There is a proper channel through which intelligence inputs are to be communicated. If the input was related to a cabinet minister, then it should have been communicated either to me or to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly first. I have asked the police headquarters to find out whether the SSB can send such a letter in such manner. Whether or not they had a prior tip-off (on the minister) or it was a suo motu action. A minister’s name cannot be tarnished without any proof,” said Nitish.

On Friday, a private news channel flashed the letter from the SSB’s intelligence wing that mentioned IM operative Zamil Akhtar and Manzoor Sai’s links with Khan, who represents Sursand Assembly constituency in Sitamarhi. The BJP accused the government of “shielding” terror suspects in the state.
