Lajong FC sign Durga Boro

Guwahati, Feb. 6: Shillong Lajong Football Club has signed Churchill Brothers striker Durga Boro in a bid to further strengthen the squad for the ongoing Airtel I-League.

The 27-year-old striker hails from Assam and played for Oil India FC, Duliajan before signing for the Goa side Churchill Brothers in 2009.

Expressing pleasure in the club’s new member, Shillong Lajong general secretary Larsing Ming Sawyan said: “We are extremely happy to have Durga Boro in Lajong. Durga is a striker with a lot of potential and we were very interested in signing him way back in 2009. However, Durga had already signed for Churchill Brothers by the time Lajong qualified for the I-League then. We wish him all the best and we hope that he will play an important role for the club in the remainder of the season.” Boro, who is known for his speed and skill with the ball, has also played numerous times for Assam in regional and national tournaments.

After signing for the club, he said: “Being from the Northeast, I am very excited to be part of Lajong. I look forward to contributing with my efforts in the I-League matches as well as training to help the club become successful.”

Lajong are placed fourth in the I-League standings with 23 points from 15 matches. They will resume their campaign against Md Sporting Club, Calcutta on February 16 in Calcutta in the remainder of the league.
