ANLA abducts, kills two

Tura, Feb. 3: The A’chik National Liberation Army (ANLA) today killed a man and his nephew from Nongolpara in North Garo Hills, about 80km from here.

Police said Ronald R. Marak, a former finance secretary of the outfit, was abducted on Saturday night from his residence at Wageasi and his nephew Meghnath R. Marak, 30, was abducted today.

“It looks like that both the man and his nephew were killed by the ANLA after Ronald deserted the outfit,” said a police officer.

The body of Meghnath was found this afternoon from Mendimaalong-Kharkutta Road in North Garo Hills. Sources said Ronald left the outfit with Rs 15 lakh and a rifle. Police said the killing was a retaliatory one.

Though Ronald’s body has not been found, police suspect that he has been killed.

North Garo Hills deputy commissioner, W. Khyllep told The Telegraph, “The killing took place after the former ANLA cadre deserted the outfit.” However, the SP was not available for comment.
