Drive to boost rural job demand

Ranchi, Feb. 1: The state rural development department is all set to start a massive drive from tomorrow, encouraging MGNREGS workers in select districts to come forward and demand jobs.

Organised to mark the MGNREGS Day, Jharkhand’s Kaam Mango Abhiyan will be launched in blocks of Khunti, Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh and Deoghar districts in the initial phase. Subsequently, the remaining districts will be covered under the campaign.

State MGNREGS commissioner Rahul Sharma said, “The main objective is to encourage workers to exercise their rights and demand work. We promise to provide work within 15 days.”

The department has already directed deputy development commissioner of each block to organise rallies, workshops and camps to educate rural people about their rights.

During these daily camps, rural workers will be encouraged to make collective applications for job. Apart from the local administration and gram panchayats, non-government organisations like NREGA Watch, Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti, PRADAN and NREGA Sahayta Kendras will play an active role in this awareness drive.
