IOA strife intensifies

New Delhi: The problems within the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), it seems, are far from over. With just nine days to go for its elections, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) virtually barred one of Abhay Chautala’s close associates from contesting the polls.

The candidate, Bhupinder Singh, filed his nomination for the post of an executive member on behalf of the Indian Boxing Federation (IBF), which was suspended by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) last year for possible manipulations in its elections.

The IOC directive has come as a huge embarrassment for Chautala, who had handpicked all the candidates.
