Congress ridicules Mamata

Calcutta, Jan. 31: The Congress today ridiculed Mamata Banerjee for publicly speaking about her ambition to play a bigger role in national politics.

Referring to the chief minister’s comments at the Brigade rally yesterday, where she spoke about her disapproval of both Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi as potential Prime Ministers, Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan said: “She is talking nonsense (anaap-shanaap) and dreaming about going to Delhi. She said she wanted to end rajtantra (dynasty). I don’t know if she has read history. Long back, loktantra (democracy) replaced rajtantra.”

Addressing Congress workers at the base of the Gandhi statue on Mayo Road, where Raiganj MP Deepa Das Munshi began a hunger strike today to demand that the proposed AIIMS-like hospital be set up in her constituency, Khan, the AICC’s Bengal observer, said: “She says she has got the key to the government. She has only 19 MPs and the Congress has 206. How can the key be with her? The Congress has a presence throughout the country. Where is Trinamul? She is making hollow noises.”
