Tributes to the father of the nation

Artistes of the Patna branch of Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) perform a street play at Gandhi Maidan on Wednesday. IPTA has planned a two-day programme to pay tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, starting Wednesday. On the first day, the performers staged four plays — Mahatma Gandhi Ki Chitthi Pahunche, Samrath Ko Nahi Dosh Gusain, Bhrashtachar Mahotsav and Khuda Hafiz. Around 200 artistes would take part in the event. “Every year, we pay tribute to the Mahatma by organising street plays and cultural programmes. Bapu was assassinated on January 30, so we organise this event on January 29 and 30,” said Piyush Singh, the joint secretary, Patna branch of IPTA. He added: “Some artistes sang and some gave lectures on Bapu’s life. On Thursday, we would stage six plays at the same venue.”
