Early report mentions rape

- DNA tests on accused and girl

Bolpur, Jan. 28: The state forensic science laboratory has confirmed rape of the Birbhum tribal girl in a preliminary report submitted to police.

The report, however, does not mention the number of persons involved in the crime.

The samples collected by the state forensic team from the crime spot in Subalpur and from the hospitalised girl on Saturday have been sent to the central forensic laboratory in Calcutta for further tests.

“We have received a preliminary report from the state forensic laboratory today that confirms rape. The report does not immediately say anything about gang rape,” a senior police officer said.

According to the officer, gang rape can be established only after DNA tests are done on all 13 accused and the girl.

Birbhum police today got permission from a Bolpur court to get the DNA tests done.
