Bud lift championís trophy

Guwahati, Jan. 27: Hosts Bud Cricket Club Blue annexed the title in the 12th Jugal Kishore Newatia Bud Challenge cricket tournament, defeating Navajyoti Club by two wickets in the final at Nehru Stadium here yesterday.

Put in to bat, Navajyoti Club posted 175 for seven in the 40 overs.

Chasing the target, the Bud batsmen achieved it losing eight wickets in 38.2 overs.

Abhinav Konwar topscored for Navajyoti with an unbeaten 56, hitting two boundaries and six sixes facing only 42 balls.

Hrishikesh Tamuli also contributed a steady 50 (5x4).

Amit Sinha of Bud scalped two wickets for 23 runs.

For Bud, Manoj Malo scored a breezy 77 (10x4) to be the topscorer and to be named Man of the Match.

Salim Ahmed scored 30 (3x4) and Tajinder Singh chipped in with 22.

Bikash Chetry of Navajyoti dismissed three batsmen for 35 runs and Chanakya Sarma claimed two for 30 runs.

Former Ranji player Parag Das of Navajyoti Club was adjudged Man of the Tournament.Hrishikesh Tamuli was named Best Batsman.

Navajyoti player Bikash Chetry bagged double honours, walking away with the Best Bowler and Best Fielder titles.

Manoj Malo was named Best Wicketkeeper.

Media cricket: The Assam Tribune today made it to the semi-finals of the inter-media T20 cricket tournament, defeating NE TV by a narrow margin of six runs in the third quarter-final at Judges Field here.
