Dream come true: Lenny

Kochi: For Churchill Brothers coach Mariano Dias life has come full circle.

In 1988, he had won the Federation Cup as a player and now after 26 years he has again won the coveted Cup, but this time as a coach. “It’s a double by me,” he said as Churchill Brothers players, officials and support staff celebrated their maiden Federation Cup triumph lustily, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, on Saturday.

“The best moment of my life. Goa won the Santosh Trophy outside the state after many years in Chennai in 2009 and I was the coach. But if you ask me to compare the feelings, I would say this one takes the cake,” Mariano said.

Even as he was speaking to the mediapersons, Abdelhamid Shabana came rushing in and said: “He is the best coach I have played under.” And if club supremo Churchill Alemao is to be believed the players would get their two months salary on Wednesday. “I will clear two months salary on Wednesday,” Alemao said.

Shabana and captain Lenny Rodrigues were over the moon. “A great performance from a great team,” beamed Shabana. “I badly wanted to win Federation Cup… A dream come true,” Lenny said.
