CJI launches village clinics

New Delhi, Jan. 24: Chief Justice P. Sathasivam today launched a nation-wide programme for setting up “village legal services clinics” to provide legal assistance on various issues to the poor and illiterate sections in rural and far-flung areas.

The services, which senior Supreme Court Justice R.M. Lodha has termed akin to the “primary health centres”, would provide legal assistance to people on marital disputes, minimum wages row, land disputes and other matters.

The programme was launched with the help of the National Legal Services Authority for setting up the legal clinics at least in one village in each taluk of the country. Nearly 2,648 clinics were opened today in a village, the CJI said.
