Oil exec molests hotel staff

A senior official of an oil company, who allegedly tried to rape a member of the housekeeping staff of a well-known hotel in Dhanbad on Tuesday, was produced before court on Wednesday and sent to a fortnight’s judicial custody.

Sanjay Kumar Sinha, area sales manager of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), a resident of Patna’s Kankarbagh area, came to Dhanbad on Tuesday morning and checked in at Hotel Cocoon.

Around 10am on Tuesday, the middle-aged man pressed the bell for housekeeping. When a woman employee entered the room, he made a pass at her and then grabbed her.

As the woman struggled to free herself from his clutches, his cellphone rang. Taking advantage of this momentary diversion, the woman fled.

The terrified woman also injured herself by colliding against a sofa outside the hotel room while she ran out. Then, she alerted her colleagues.

Hotel staff immediately intervened, questioning Sinha. Then, the hotel management informed the police.

Sinha told the police that he was “framed” because the woman in question wanted a “big amount of tip from me”.

Police, however, were convinced by the footage of the CCTV camera mounted in the corridor, which showed the woman running from the room.
