Priyana meets Lenien in final

Guwahati, Jan. 21: Top seed Priyana Kalita will play Lenien Jamir in the all-Assam under-16 girls’ final of the fourth India Club AITA Championship Series tennis tournament at India Club courts here today. In the round of four, Priyana blanked out Raina Jaffar of Assam 6-0, 6-0, while Lenien beat Sreya Mondal of Bengal 6-3, 6-2.

In the under-16 boys’ quarter-finals played today, Siddharth Choudhury (Assam) beat Rituraj Gogoi (Assam) 4-2, 4-1, Mingki Talom (Arunachal Pradesh) got the better of Jugal Barua (Assam) 5-3, 5-3 and Rounak Bora (Assam) overcame Ronit Bora (Assam) 2-4, 5-3, 7-5.

Unseeded Neethi Barua of Assam caused an upset on the second day by shocking second seed Assam girl Anisha Sharma 4-2, 5-3 in the quarter-finals in under-16 girls’ courts.

The other seeded players had a field day to progress to the next round.

Media cricket

News Live and The Assam Tribune progressed into the next round of the Media Cricket Tournament registering wins in their respective matches at Judges Field here today.

News Live got the better of Dainik Janambhumi by nine wickets. In the second match of the day, The Assam Tribune beat Ajir Dainik Batori by 10 wickets.
