Navarang triumph

Guwahati, Jan. 20: Navarang Club registered a four-wicket victory over River Rine Club in their match of the 12th Jugal Kishore Newatia Bud Challenge Cricket Tournament at Nehru Stadium here today.

The match witnessed a fine all-round display by Palash Jyoti Das, which also included the first hattrick of the tournament.

Batting first, River Rine Club couldn’t make the most of the situation, as they were restricted to a meagre total of 123 runs off 39.2 overs. Biky Rajak remained not out with 45 runs off 75 deliveries while Chandan Singh was the other notable contributor with 32 runs off 77 balls. Palash Jyoti Das was the wrecker-in-chief with six wickets in his kitty for 21 runs in 9.2 overs, including a hattrick. Ritupan Patowali scalped two wickets conceding 19 runs in eight overs. Chasing the target, Navarang got past the target losing six of their batsmen in 27.1 overs. The side rode on Jyotiaditya Chetia’s unbeaten 55 runs off 77 deliveries while Palash Jyoti Das contributed 22 runs off 35 balls. Imamul Haque and Arijit Baruah picked up two wickets each. Palash Jyoti Das was adjudged the Man of the Match for his splendid all-round performance in the match.

Navarang Club will play Favourite Club tomorrow.

Body-building: N. Suraj of Manipur emerged the champion of champions in the Eastern India Classic Body Building Championship held under the Assam Body Builders and Fitness Association at Hojai in Nagaon yesterday.
