JRHM stir hits polio drive

Ranchi, Jan. 19: The ongoing agitation of contractual employees under the Jharkhand Rural Health Mission (JRHM) partially affected the pulse polio drive in Jharkhand on Polio Ravivar (today).

Around 7,000 agitating ANMs (auxiliary nurse midwives) refused to go to field visits today to protest against delay in clearing their dues.

Sources said health department managed to pull it off on the first day of the seven-day campaign. However, from tomorrow, the department will have to depend on JRHM’s employees, especially ANMs who go door-to-door to cover all children in remote pockets.

“Their absence will hit the drive at the grassroots level,” said a senior health official.

Contractual employees, including the ANMs, have been on an indefinite pen-down strike from January 16.
