Calcutta, Jan. 18: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee today went to Suchitra Sen’s Ballygunge Circular Road home to pay her respects, a day after the screen icon died at Belle Vue Clinic.

Mamata spent around an hour from 5.10pm with Sen’s daughter Moon Moon and other family members at the 52/4/1 Ballygunge Circular Road apartment, sources said.

Fifteen minutes after the chief minister entered the building, her security personnel carried sweets and fruits inside. The fruits were mostly oranges, Sen’s favourite, the sources said.

Urban development minister Firhad Hakim and transport minister Madan Mitra accompanied Mamata.

Mamata had visited the 82-year-old actress several times at Belle Vue, where Sen was admitted for 20 days before she died of a cardiac arrest early last morning.

Sources close to the chief minister said Mamata asked Moon Moon if she had faced any problem yesterday. The administration had rolled out its machinery to ensure that there was no chaos during Sen’s last journey.

Throughout today, several people, including Purna Das Baul, visited Sen’s home to pay homage.

Sources said Sen’s sraddha would be held at her home on Monday. Moon Moon will perform the puja and other rituals, they added.
