Man held for stabbing realtor

A grocer was arrested on Thursday for allegedly stabbing a realtor over an eviction dispute at a construction site near Bowbazar police station.

Gyan Murarka was admitted to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, where his condition was stated to be critical. Two other persons were injured when they tried to resist Sanjay Agarwal, the grocer.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Murarka, a resident of Behala, had bought a plot in Kapalitala Lane, off CR Avenue, and started constructing a four-storey building.

“The tenants of the plot took money from Murarka and vacated the premises,” said an officer of Bowbazar police station.

“Agarwal, too, had taken money but refused to leave. He demanded a portion of the ground floor for his shop,” said the officer.

Around 3.30pm on Thursday, Murarka reached Agarwal’s shop and asked him to vacate the plot.

“Witnesses said Agarwal came out of his shop with a knife and stabbed Murarka. Two persons, who tried to resist him, suffered injuries on their hands,” said the officer.
