CIMA Gallary

Annual affair

What: Calcutta Club International Evening, in association with The Telegraph

When: January 17 and 18, 6.30pm onwards

Where: Calcutta Club

What to expect: This year will see the 35th edition of the event, which started in 1979.

On Day One, tune in to a special session — Calcutta conversation presented by Apollo Gleneagles Cancer Hospital — where guests will talk about the city. An art auction is on the cards. The day will end on a happy note with Louiz Banks and Don Saigal making music. On Day Two, African acrobatic dancers from Mozambique will put up a show, followed by a performance by all-women band, Indiva. DJ Candy will take over the console later.

On both days, expect 27 food stalls — from standalone restaurants to star hotels — serving world cuisine. If Mainland China will serve up Chinese food, ITC Sonar will stir up some Thai. Two foreign consulates — Myanmar and Russia — will also serve specials. The highlight? Dhaka’s famous biryani place Fakruddin’s, whose cooks will be flying in for the do!

To add some speed and style to the spread, Bentley will have a car on display while a P.C. Chandra Jewellers stall will dazzle with its designs. Designer Anshu Modi is slated to showcase Indianwear. Delhi-based Chandra Dath Singh, the high commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago, will attend.
