CJI nixes ad picture

New Delhi, Jan. 14 (PTI): Chief Justice P. Sathasivam had refused permission to publish his photograph in a government advertisement for a programme related to the Supreme Court, an RTI reply has revealed.

Documents reveal that a request was sent to him for his photograph to be published by the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity during the release of India’s first customised pincode to the Supreme Court by the postal department.

Sathasivam was the chief guest at the event and Union minister Kapil Sibal was to preside over it.

The documents accessed by activist Subhash Agarwal show that postmaster-general Rajinder Kashyap wrote to registrar administration and protocol M.A. Sayeed on September 24.

However, this proposal was turned down as file notings mentioned that the office of the Chief Justice of India had refused permission to publish his photograph in the advertisement.

“Due to non-permission from the CJI, the photograph of Chief Justice of India could not be published on September 26, 2013 advertisement,” the notings given under the RTI Act said.
