Navarang drub GTC junior

Guwahati, Jan. 12: Navarang Club thrashed hosts Gauhati Town Club (junior) by 123 runs in the Ramesh Barooah Trophy Invitation Cricket Tournament at Judges Field here today.

Navarang opted to bat and piled up a mammoth 278 for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 40 overs.

An unbeaten ton by top-order batsman Noushad Ali helped Navarang gain the upper hand.

Noushad topscored with an unbeaten 101 runs off 84 balls while Abhijeet Rabha contributed 40 runs off 60 deliveries. Janan Boro chipped in with a quickfire 36 runs off 26 balls.

Aryaman Pangal, Rohan Dutta and Vicky Barman picked up two wickets each.

In reply, the hosts could only manage just 155 runs for the loss of five wickets. Frontline batsman Vicky Barman scored 44 runs off 83 balls while Aryaman Pangal contributed 24 runs off 31 deliveries. Zibbran Das was the only other notable contributor with 10 runs off 24 balls.

Sekhar Jyoti Barman scalped two wickets conceding 15 runs in eight overs while Sadek Imran Choudhury and Bishal Roy picked up a wicket each.

Navajyoti Club will take on City Cricket Club tomorrow.

Yesterday, Maharana Athletic Club got the better of Bud Cricket Club (Green) by three wickets. Batting first, the Bud batsmen were bundled out for 154 runs out in 39.3 overs. In reply, Maharana got past the target losing seven wickets in 32.1 overs.
