Brake on thrill sports

- Safety poser prompts regulator search

Ranchi, Jan. 11: State tourism department today imposed a blanket ban on all forms of aero-sports in Jharkhand with immediate effect as a precautionary move till such time a regulator is in place.

In its directive, the department has asked all deputy commissioners and superintendents of police to implement the ban and asked them to slap cases under IPC sections against violators, if needed.

The missive categorises hot air ballooning, parasailing, power-gliding and motor paragliding among the banned activities. It, however, does not mention anything about water sports.

The immediate casualty of the decision was a 5-day parasailing camp that was launched today by Tata Steel Adventure Foundation in Jamshedpur.

By the time the East Singhbhum administration got to know of the ban, the day’s event was over. As many as 40 enthusiastic participants were able to enjoy a ride in the sky. Later, TSAF called off the event.

The ban comes at a time when the tourist season is underway.
