Grandson held for killing

A 19-year-old youth was arrested from Bagunhatu in Sidhgora police station area on Friday for killing his maternal grandmother on January 8.

Sunny Yadav killed Kanchan Devi with a boulder because she had caught him having sex with a minor girl at her house. Her mutilated body was found from a drain near her Bagunhatu home the same day.

Senior superintendent of police Amol V. Homkar said: “We acted on information given by some local residents, who saw the youth beating up his grandmother. During interrogations, he confessed to his crime. We have also recovered his blood-stained clothes and the boulder with which he killed the woman.”

On January 8 evening, Sunny, an orphan, had taken a girl to Kanchan’s house. Although his grandmother was present in the house, he started having sex with the girl.

When Kanchan caught them in the act, she scolded them and even slapped the girl twice. After the girl left, Sunny confronted his grandmother. When Kanchan asked him to mend his ways, Sunny picked up a boulder and hit her on the head with it. As she fell down, he kept on hitting her till she died.

“Sunny dragged her body to a nearby drain, where he dumped it. He also changed his blood-stained clothes and hid both the boulder and the garments at an abandoned house about half-a-kilometre away,” Homkar said.
