Man shot at in front of home

A gang of four shot at a 42-year-old man following an altercation at a residential area in Dakshinpara, off VIP Road near Baguiati, on Tuesday evening.

Suresh Mishra, alias Lyangra Suresh, who sources said was an aide of alleged gangster Rajesh Nayek, was shot at point-blank range after four youths called him out of his flat around 6.30pm. He has been admitted to RG Kar hospital with a bullet wound in the shoulder.

Police have launched a hunt for the four, who officers suspect were sent by Rajesh’s rivals.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that the youths, who had come on two motorbikes, held Suresh against the iron shutters of a garage and fired twice. One of the bullets missed him but the other pierced his shoulder.

By the time neighbours arrived hearing the gunshots, the youths had sped off.

“It appears to be a case of gang rivalry over area domination,” said a senior officer of Dum Dum police station. “Nayek’s men had allegedly killed a member of a rival gang and this could be a retaliation.”
