Kh. Satish steals show

Imphal, Jan. 5: Kh. Satish Singh proved the trump card for defending champions North Eastern Reorganisation and Cultural Organisation, scoring a hattrick to beat Southern Sporting Union by 3-0 goals to guide his team into the semi-final of the 57th Sir Churachand Singh Football Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

The match drew hundreds of spectators as both teams battled for a berth in the last four.

Kh. Satish brought cheers to the crowd with his opening goal in the injury time of the first half, with able help from H. Chakravorti for the lead.

With a goal in their kitty, the North Eastern upped the ante with L. Gouro Singh making a left goalline cross to the far post, from where L. Ibungobi headed back the ball to Kh. Satish who headed home for a 2-0 lead.

Frustrated by their poor show in the match, the Southern Sporting Union made some desperate runs from both flanks, but were unable to breach the defence of their opposition.

North Eastern Reorganisation got their third goal from a quick counter-attack in the 89th minute with Kh. Satish scoring a sliding goal to complete his hattrick.

In the semi-final, North Eastern Reorganisation will take on Tiddim Road Athletic Union on Tuesday. In tomorrow’s match, NISA will play FC Reitlang, Mizoram.

BMSC win: BMSC Tabungkhok defeated Yarkhok United FC by 6-1 goals in the Manchester United Premier Cup Selection Competition played at Artificial Turf, Khuman Lampak. Ng. Jenish scored four goals.

Kohima meet: The 61st Kohima Village Sports Meet will get under way at Khuochiezie in Kohima town from January 7.
