BTC book fair begins

Kokrajhar, Jan. 4: Sixty-two publishers from all over the country will set up stalls at the 13th Bodoland Book Fair which begins here tomorrow at D.N. Himatsingka ground.

Organised by the Bodoland Territorial Council, the fair will be inaugurated by Assam transport minister Chandan Brahma and Bodoland University vice-chancellor Hemanta Kr Baruah.

BTC executive member Derhasat Basumatary, who is the president of the organising committee, said over 1,500 students from 40 colleges and universities of Assam were expected to attend the fair. He said the BTC had bought books to the tune of Rs 1.6 crore last year and this year it would bear the expenditure of books bought by registered libraries and clubs under BTC.

The main attraction of the event will be the 3rd Bodoland Quiz, to be conducted by Barry O Brien. Competitions like art, essay writing, poem recitation and cultural programmes will be held at the fair ground. The book fair will conclude on January 12.
