Calcutta, Jan. 4: The Madhyamgram gang-rape victim’s parents will meet President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 7 to demand a CBI probe into the death of the 16-year-old.
They will tell the President that police had harassed them by forcibly taking their daughter’s body for cremation after she died of burns on December 31.
The girl had allegedly set herself on fire following threats from relatives and friends of the accused to drop the case.
The girl’s father said Citu leader Shyamal Chakraborty had arranged the Rashtrapati Bhavan visit. The parents will be accompanied by two relatives.
“We have been given an appointment around 1.30pm. We are eagerly waiting to speak to the President and demand a CBI probe. We’ll narrate to him the ordeal we had to face before and after my daughter’s death,” said the girl’s father, a taxi driver.
He today went to his rented house near Dum Dum airport to collect documents related to her treatment. “I could be murdered if I spend a night there,” he said.
Trinamul will organise rallies in Madhyamgram from Sunday to counter the Left’s campaign protesting the gang rape. Minister Jyotipriya Mallick will lead the rallies.
