US court summons Sonia

New York, Sept. 4 (PTI): A US court has issued summons to Congress president Sonia Gandhi for “shielding and protecting” party leaders allegedly involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

The US Eastern District Court of New York issued the summons on a complaint by Sikhs For Justice, an NGO, and two riots’ victims.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said in New Delhi that they were not aware of any such summons. “Summons issued almost 30 years after the event when the Congress president is on a medical visit is, to put it mildly, astonishing. Undoubtedly, appropriate legal action will be taken,” Singhvi said.

Sonia is in the US for medical treatment.
