Toast to Literature

What: Literary Night, 2013

Where: BIT-Mesra

When: August 26

Organised by: Literary Society of BIT-Mesra

Wannabe techies from BIT-Mesra showed their literary side when they stepped into their scholarly shoes and indulged in word play, acted in skits, recited poems and wracked their brains for prompt answers on everything about literature.

Curtains went up on the show with an introductory mini-skit followed by a number of innovative events, including some impromptu ones for the audience.

The first one, Thespian Impressions, saw students speaking on various personalities. The topics ranged from Shakespeare’s Romeo to Narendra Modi.

The English debate — Classic literature vs fast food fiction — and also the Hindi one — Bharat na kabhi vishwashakti tha na kabhi ban sakta hai — took a fiery turn with critical interjections from participants and audience.

The quiz, Lit-trivia, was no less gripping, where participants faced a volley of questions on the literary world.Next was Dialogue-bazi where one had to come up with witty replies to the most bizarre and funny dialogues that Bollywood has managed to churn out.

To get the participants into a poetic frame of mind, they were given myriad topics in both Hindi and English and asked to frame limericks or five-line witty poems. The entries received did prove the love for poetry that the 2013 batch has.

But the top pick of the evening was Kavi Sammelan, where the budding poets of BIT-Mesra experimented with the verse to come up with some excellent creations.
