Twin burglaries

B>n Burglars targeted two houses in Salt Lake and looted cash, jewellery and gadgets worth nearly a lakh on Wednesday, a day after a similar burglary at BE Block. At CF 94, burglars cut a window grille and fled with Rs 15,000 and a diamond ring while Anadi Roy Chowdhury, 70, and his wife were asleep. The burglars allegedly ate food and drank soft drinks from the fridge before leaving through the main door. A laptop and three cell phones were stolen from a house at AE Block.

Campus clash

B>n Seven Chhatra Parishad supporters from Asutosh College were allegedly assaulted by Trinamul Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) members on Wednesday after a first-year student complained she had been teased. TMCP supporters alleged that three Chhatra Parishad members had teased the girl and attacked them when they protested. The two groups got into a scuffle. The Chhatra Parishad supporters demonstrated outside Bhowanipore police station.

Extra coach

B>n An extra sleeper-class coach will be added to the Howrah-Dehradun Doon Express between Howrah and Haridwar from September 10. The train at present has seven sleeper coaches.
