UPAA edge past Youth

Imphal, July 26: UPAA Kiyamgei defeated Youth Organisation Sporting Club by 2-1 goals in the Maharajkumar Ghanendrajit Memorial Super Division Football League, 2013 at Khuman Lampak main stadium today.

The first half went goalless. United Progressive Adults Association scored the first goal in the 53rd minute through Th. Kiran Singh. The very next minute, A. Pradipkumar Singh consolidated for a 2-0 goal lead.

Youth Organisation Cultural Club player Worchuipui scored his teamís only goal.

First Division league: Wangoi Football Association registered a 4-2 goal victory against KKYDA Kha Jiri in the 20th L. Sangita Devi Memorial 1st Division Football League at SKYC ground, Sekmai.

L. Ajit Singh scored two goals while M. Kabiraj and Th. Sunil fetched a goal each for Wangoi.

Ch. Angouba and S.R. Koireng struck one goal each for KKYDA Kha Jiri.

Altogether 10 teams are participating in the tournament.

Open chess: Top seed Kh. Sanjay Singh leads with 15 points in the first State-Level Open Chess Tournament, 2013 organised by UCC at Uripok in Imphal West.

In the fifth round match, Sanjay Singh beat fourth-seeded A. Chakritombi to collect full points. On the other tables, Herojit Singh beat H. Jacky while O. Ningthem beat Atembi for the second slot.

Chakritombi, Bangkim, Bhim, Nabachandra Singh, Shankar, Inao, Romeo and Saheb Singh have 12 points.

Mr World: Manipur People Struggle Committee will felicitate Mr World title holder Ng. Shantikumar Singh on his achievement tomorrow at Sagolband Moirang Hanuba in Imphal West.

Shantikumar, a native of Manipur who has become a Taiwan citizen, had bagged the Mr World title at a body-building contest in Greece recently and had dedicated his title to the people of Manipur.
